The Karate Kid - A Review By Sreeni R

Why do we go to watch a FILM?
There cud be 1000 reasons but the prime reason is entertainment isn't it?

Myself and my Brother walked into the theater without any hope or expectation. Of course there was a basic expectation like "Well its a Jackie Film and it is supposed to be good and a fun film", "Well, it has Jaden Smith in it, whose previous flick was Awesome", "This film is definitely supposed to be good, otherwise Will is not gonna Co-produce" and stuff like this.

Once the film started I knew that I was gonna watch one of the best films of this season. Man, Jaden is a star and I can tell you with content that he's gonna do films with more latitude than his father. He's just a kid but you'll see an acting experience of at least 3 times his age. The subtlety and the novelty in his performance is impeccable and Taraji P. Henson as his Mother has done justice to the role, that's all. Most of the times her expression looks very repetitive, but u can excuse or even go without noticing it bcos the story is abt the lil boy. :)

Story: A kid learning to overcome his fears.
Critics mite say this is a normal average Hollywood commercial flick and some may even write this off but for me this is very important. To take a message direct to the hearts of millions, your film has to be simple and strikingly effective.

When I was watching the film I felt like I went back to those years when I was a kid, you know, just playing around in the parks fighting with the kids, stealing stuff, etc etc etc. But definitely I was never able to overcome my fears. Even today if a man of 100 kgs and a well built body stands before me  and calls for a fight I'm definitely gonna be scared. But that is the lesson i learnt from this movie, there is one dialogue which I think is the most important dialogue of the film and which i feel is the foundation of the story. In the climax when Jackie asks Jaden "Why is it that it is so important for you to fight?" Jaden simply says "Because I'm still scared, and i don't wanna be scared." I just Clapped until my palms went sore, not just me but all the people in the theater did that.

That is what film making is all about. Touching hearts, passing the message however small it is. Letting someone feel what you felt.

Lastly, I would like to talk about Jackie Chan. Man, he is a legend and time and again he proves that he cannot be guessed or stereotyped. He has done so many emotional films which an average film goer might not know. I've been a big fan of Jackie from my childhood days (Cmon guys everyone wud've) and he amuses me even now. His acting/ role was perfect. He was perfectly cast. His role just supports the film from Start to End. I definitely Love him for what he has done to Cinema and according to me he's an amazing actor and he would've become a great actor if he wasn't into Martial Arts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film and it has so many sequences which felt so real and earthly. When the film ended i cud feel that everyone in the theater was happy and glad that they had walked into this movie.

My brother and I were waiting for a while to take my Bike out of the Parking lot and there I cud see those lil ones doing some super cool moves and shouting uuuuuuhhh aaaaaaahhh... yeaohhhhhhhh... etc and i just loved that moment and one particular kid never stopped kicking his legs in the air until he got into the car. This is all that matters. you know... "Touching the Hearts" I definitely know that there will be a rise in the number of enrollments in the Karate Classes for sure.

Go Watch This Film with your Family and I'm sure You'll Love It!!!
