Naan Mahaan Alla - A Review By Sreeni R

My Lil brother and me are on a film watching spree. It was Madarasapattinam yesterday and the much awaited “Naan Mahaan Alla” today. On my way back from work i just called him to come n pick me and i just like that asked him if he was game for “Naan Mahaan Alla” as expected he said yes (You see it runs in the blood). So went home ate a quick dinner and then off we went to a local theatre in our area. It did not matter, what theatre it was all that mattered was "Naan Mahan Alla" on day one.

My brother usually is a rough guy so getting the tickets was his department. i as usual was watching people's reaction etc and that blah blah blah i talk about. After 15 long minutes he came back with a big smile with the tickets in his hands. We were ready now.

OK i jumped the gun here, lets go back to the part where i was having my dinner. My friend called me up and asked what i was doing and i said, “Bro me getting ready for "Naan Mahan Alla".” He said “Looks like this film is not that good.” I quickly said “I too think the same, but still am gonna go see it, ha-ha (my classic smile)”. Now come back to the theatre.

lemme get started with the film.
I really never had any faith on Karthi's performance before. I thought he stayed a bit too long in “Paruthi Veeran's” skin. For me that showed up in all his movies that he did after PV, that includes Paiyaa too. But this film was a stunner. I saw Karthi in a fresh light. The film starts in a bit clichéd manner. Like a song sequence at friend's wedding. HERO KNOWS IT ALL ABOUT GIRLS sequences, HERO HEROINE ALWAYS FALL IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT sequences, but then those were really cute. Karthi did it this time. It worked. Kajal Agarwal was absolutely gorgeous. She was at her best, I've seen her Telugu films and i think she has shed a lot of weight for this film and her hard work has paid off. She was cute, bubbly and awesomely brilliant on screen. The romance sequences were nice. You can forgive the cliché. Then the film moves into its actual story about a gang of college kids, that too learned bad ones and how Kathi's father gets involved with them. From this moment the film gathers a lot of pace and authenticity. Suseendran was brilliant in Vennilaa Kabadi Kuzhu and i know he loves logic and i could see him getting into his skin in the later half. The story evolved got its full meaning and Karthi was spearheading it. Suseendran has done it guys. He has managed to make a film which dances to the tune of the audience and at the same time quest his hunger for quality. This film will get a bigger, wider audience and I'm sure his work will get applauded in the form of BOX OFFICE HIT.

Naan Mahan Alla's climax was the best of all. It had awesome stunt choreography and it was believable, unlike Karthi's earlier SUPERHERO avatar in Paiyaa. This time Karthi was born on our mother planet Earth and not Krypton. He suited the role so well. There are few sequences where his performance really stood out. And you will notice them when you see it too. Believe me guys, you'll love the climax fight sequence and the way film ends.

Technically the film was adequate in every sense. First of all the Art Department did an amazing job. Except for the first few sequences every thing else looked natural and real. There was no fabrication. Hero's home was made look like a real middle class family's home. And also in the climax the art work stood out. Music was adequate too. Yuvan has sung the best song of the album and the music was used aptly. One thing I'm noticing is that Yuvan has a great sense of style when it comes to BGMs. His BGM in the climax was just perfect, it definitely added momentum to the sequence.

The last half hour was a thrilling experience. Making something like this without losing or giving up logic is a great challenge and Suseendran has done a great job at that. He made sure he doesn't deviate much.
All the actors performed well and the villain was awesome too. He was a kid in Nanda and now he's all grown up and his eyes speak a lot.

I enjoyed this film and I'm sure it was not bad. All i felt bad about was the cliches in the first half of the film which could've been avaoided so that this film would've looked very genuine.

Go watch this film,
If you LIKE TO SEE KARTHI in a different light, to see HOW CONSISTENT SUSEENDRAN is, HOW GORGEOUS KAJAL is, and a STRONG MESSAGE which is embedded in the film and something which each and every couple has to know. Kudos to the team of Naan Mahaan Alla, hope Suseendran continues his good work like this, or even better than this. I'm now happily waiting for “Azhagarsaamiyin Kudhirai” produced by Gautam Menon.

This message is to my friend who called me, “Bro, go watch this film. You'll like it man, as i said, its not bad”.
